Sims

By Aspyr Media

I have seen other Sims games out on store shelves for many years but never attempted to play any of them. Well I finally broke down and bought their latest new game called The Sims (Macintosh). There are many window versions such as Sims Theme Park, and Sims City to name a few.

The Sims games starts by selecting a family. There are the options of an already made up family or you can create your own. In the family there is the option of male and female adults and children, with a maximum of eight in one family, but this is not recommended. You decide on what zodiac sign they will be and this will determine their behavior. The character of each Sim is developed through what is called, Moods. Under the moods your responsible for satisfying their needs under these categories: hunger, comfort, hygiene, bladder, energy, fun, social, and room.

Hunger- Sims need to be feed at least three times each day
Comfort-Sims need to sit down on coach
Hygiene-Sims need to wash their hands, take a shower, or a bath.
Bladder-Sims need to use the toilet from time to time or an accident likely will happen
Energy-Sims need to sleep, take naps or drink a lot of coffee to keep from falling over
Fun-Sims need to watch TV, computer or dance to the radio
Social-Sims need to meet their neighbor and make friends
Room-Sims need to clean up after themselves especially when they take a shower and the floor gets wet.

After your Sim has been developed it is time to move them into their own home. Every family starts off with a predetermined amount of money. Two type of homes are provided. the first is a previously designed home which the Sims buy and move in. The second home is one that you build and than move your Sims into.

Sims act just like real people do. So it is important to purchase furniture, and important things like at least one toilet and a sink in the bathroom. You will need to provide them with a table on which to eat, and chairs for them to sit down. Sims can only be controlled one at a time by you. Or you can give them free will so that while you are playing with one the rest do there own thing. Although Sims need to be looked after the predetermined amount of money at the start of the game does run out and needs to be replenished. A paper is delivered to the home every morning, and it is the Sims responsibility to find a job. In order to earn a better life style the Sims go to work and earn some money each day. Children go to school each morning and come home at night. Sims need to sleep or they go to work tired and crabby.

We played this game on a G3/400 with 320 MB of ram and 8 MB of video ram. We found that when we set up a family of eight that the computer froze half way through the game. However we found playing with a family of four worked very well. We were able to use full graphics and sound capabilities in this game. We also found that playing the game was so much fun that we played for a few hours each day.
This is a great game that can be played by the whole family. It is entertaining and can teach you the importance of everyone working together to form a family.
Out of a rating of five we gave this game a 5.
